Community Initiatives
How do we create effective community initiatives that promote healthy children, strong families, and safe communities?
NISD Council of PTAs strives to create meaningful partnerships and alliances with the community-at-large to further family engagement, improve student success, and share relevant resources. The PTA Mission is: To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
NISD is the largest school district in San Antonio with program needs that vary between schools, students, and parents. NISD Council’s Community Initiatives will provide valuable opportunities for schools to participate within the district for community involvement and community service projects. The goal of Community Initiatives is to help schools reach their programming goals by providing projects with little planning required. In this way local unit PTAs are easily able to take part in valuable community programs in line with the Mission and Purpose of PTA.
The research is overwhelmingly clear: when parents play a positive role in their children’s education, students do better in school. They have better test scores and higher grades, enroll in higher level classes, attend school and pass their classes, develop better social skills, graduate from high school, attend college, and find productive work.
