Welcome Letter From The President

Welcome to the 2013 -2014 school year at Northside ISD. This year Northside ISD Council of PTAs proudly adds three new PTAs to our Council: Dr. John M. Folks Middle School PTA, Dr. Sara B. McAndrew Elementary PTA, and Kay Franklin Elementary PTA.

The Norhside ISD Council of PTAs is composed of over 22,000 PTA/PTSA members, within 103 local units, serving over 100,000 students and their families. The Council was chartered in 1961, under the authority of the Texas PTA.

Our Council board of volunteers has been busy this summer getting ready for the school year, and we look forward to working with each of our local PTAs helping their local team be successful in bringing programs to their school. The PTA Mission is:

To make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.

NISD is a large district with needs that vary depending on the school. We are here to assist each school with the particular needs relevant to that PTA. Council PTA offers a variety of training and support classes with materials. We can also provide a Local Board Orientation training in which we come to your school. Council publishes five newsletters a year and supports programs such as the Jack C. Jordan Scholarship and the Reflections fine arts program.

We hope that you find our website informative and useful. All of our Council board members have had experience on a local PTA and are ready to help support you when you have questions. Our contact information is on the website. I look forward to meeting many of you at our general meetings in 2013 on September 5th and November 6th and in 2014 on January 9th, March 6th, and May 1st.

On behalf of the other members of the Council, please allow me to extend our heartfelt thanks to each of you, the parents, grandparents, family members, community members, teachers and administrators who work each day on behalf of the children in our community. While you may not realize, all of you are child advocates, doing your best not just for one child but for every child with one voice.

NISD Council of PTAs' Goals:

  • Increase Membership by 3% within 50% of Local PTAs
  • Build Leadership and Relationships by Increasing Training and Meeting Attendance

1. Make sure to send copies of treasurer reports for your board and general meetings to the Vice President assigned to your PTA.

2. Remind officers and chairpersons to update procedure books thoughout the year. Some PTAs have a transition meeting so that the current board members can give the binders to new members who will be taking over their duties and can answer any questions. When possible leaving contact information is helpful for any questions later on.

3. Make sure that you designate the signers on your account as needed due to changes in officers and note them in your minutes.

4. Designate the who the non-signer is that will open and sign your bank statements each month and note this in your minutes.

5. Financial reconciliation should be completed prior to a new treasurer taking over the books and writing any checks, or any time a signer is added or deleted on the account.

Please let us know of any questions you may have at any time.
