Jack C. Jordan Scholarship

Jack C. Jordan Scholarship Committee

The Jack C. Jordan Scholarship Committee has been working diligently these past couple of months reading and scoring applications, interviewing finalists, and making the extremely difficult decision for the final recipients of the scholarship award. It’s another proud moment for NISD as each applicant is an accomplished and well deserving young adult. I would like to thank all the committee members for devoting their personal time to this worthy program. I would also like to thank all the schools that made donations to support the scholarship fund. The local PTAs make it possible for us to support these aspiring college graduates and to help them realize their goal.

Congratulations to the Jack C. Jordan Scholarship recipients for 2016!

The Jack C. Jordan Scholarship

The Northside ISD Council of PTAs awards scholarships each year to outstanding graduating seniors from each NISD high school. The scholarship fund was named after Jack C. Jordan in 1988. Mr. Jordan served this district for 35 years, including as Superintendent from 1982 to 1993, and remains committed to Northside as an active member of the Northside School Museum Association.

In order to be considered for a Jack C. Jordan Scholarship, a student must file the application according to the procedures outlined in the application packet and must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a graduate of a NISD high school
  • Attend a regionally accredited two/three/four-year college or university
  • Exhibit the NISD Pillars of Character competencies
  • Need financial assistance
  • Have a scholastic record satisfactory to the Scholarship Committee
  • Student must be a member of their school’s local PTSA

The monetary value of the scholarship is $2,400 disbursed over the student’s desired degree program not to exceed four years. An annual payment of $600 is paid in two installments, $300 each semester. Checks are made payable to and mailed directly to the colleges or universities.

Continuance of the scholarship for the second, third, and fourth years of the college work is at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee and is contingent upon the recipient being responsible for the following:

  • Taking at least 12 course hours each semester
  • Maintaining at least a 2.0 GPA each semester
  • Maintaining continuous enrollment in the Fall and Spring semesters
  • Submitting an official transcript of grades each semester within 14 days of receiving grades

The Jack C. Jordan Scholarship Fund Penny Drive is continuing through mid-April 2016. The scholarship fund relies largely on donations from the local PTAs to help our outstanding seniors with scholarships so they can realize their dreams of going to college. All donations go directly to the payment of scholarships. Please make your plans to support the scholarship fund today.

No amount is too small to help the scholarship fund grow and support a fellow NISD student.

Please see the Jack C. Jordan Scholarship Fund Penny Drive flyer on why your support of the scholarship fund is so important. Instructions on how and where to make your deposits is also included. Deposits should be made by April 14th. PTAs may also make a direction donation with a check payable to the Jack C. Jordan Scholarship Fund and mailed to NEF Partnerships, 6632 Bandera Road, Bldg. A, San Antonio, TX 78238. Thank you for your efforts to support the scholarship fund!
